# DND & suppression

> Do-not-disturb on the contact record — per channel or everything — plus the workspace-wide suppression list. STOP anywhere stops everything, and every send checks first.

DND is one switch on the person, honored everywhere. Open a contact → **DND** and toggle individual channels (SMS, WhatsApp, email, calls) or **DND all**. From that moment, every workflow notification and every campaign send checks the flag before leaving — a blocked send is skipped and logged as skipped, never silently attempted.

## How opt-outs happen

| Event | Effect |
| --- | --- |
| Customer texts STOP | SMS (and campaign sends) to that person stop instantly — workspace-wide, not per campaign. |
| WhatsApp opt-out | Same: the channel flag sets and every WhatsApp send respects it. |
| A human sets DND | Front-desk judgment ("this person asked us not to call") becomes machine-enforced. |
| DND all | The master switch: no outbound of any kind, on any channel. |

## One suppression list

Suppression is workspace-wide. A person who opted out of the spring campaign doesn't get the summer one because the flag lives on the *contact*, not the campaign. [Quiet hours](/docs/doors/whatsapp) are the second guard: sends that would land at 2am hold until morning.

> **WHY THIS MATTERS COMMERCIALLY:** A2P registration, carrier filtering, and WhatsApp policy all punish businesses that message opted-out people. Central DND is what lets you run [campaigns](/docs/campaigns/overview) aggressively without burning the number's reputation.
