# FAQ

> The questions everyone asks: numbers and porting, what happens when the AI doesn't know, pricing mechanics, texting compliance, data, and going live safely.

## Phones & numbers

**Do I have to change my phone number?**

No. Keep your number and your phone. Dial *71 plus your AI number once, and only calls you don't answer roll to the AI. *73 turns it off. See the [AI receptionist](/docs/doors/ai-receptionist) deployment patterns.

**Does my phone still ring first?**

Yes — with the missed-call redirect your phone rings exactly as before. The AI only gets the calls that would have hit voicemail.

**What does a number cost?**

$10/mo per number, billed as its own Stripe subscription. Cancel and it releases cleanly at period end. See [Phone numbers](/docs/doors/phone-numbers).

**Can the AI transfer to a real person?**

Yes — transfers with context, to staff by name. "Let me talk to a person" is caught anywhere in a call by a global node. See [Guardrails](/docs/ai/guardrails).

## The AI

**What happens when it doesn't know the answer?**

It says so safely and escalates — a transfer on the phone, a [help-desk ticket](/docs/helpdesk/overview) elsewhere, with the transcript attached. It's grounded in your [knowledge](/docs/ai/knowledge), so it quotes your content rather than inventing answers.

**Will it make up prices?**

It answers prices from your trained price list. If a price isn't in knowledge, the safe behavior is to take details and promise a confirmation — and for safety-critical wording you can force [exact static text](/docs/workflows/steps).

**Can it sound like our business?**

The persona sets the name, greeting, and tone; voice and language are configurable per agent; and every flow's wording is yours. See [Voice & personas](/docs/ai/voice).

**How do I test before going live?**

Everything has a rehearsal mode: chat live-preview, simulated test calls in sandbox, and [workflow test runs](/docs/workflows/testing-and-versions) against your own phone number.

## Texting & compliance

**Why does SMS need registration?**

US carriers require A2P 10DLC registration for business texting; unregistered traffic gets filtered. OpenAgent runs the registration for you — start it on day one, approval can take days. See [SMS](/docs/doors/sms).

**What happens when someone texts STOP?**

They're suppressed workspace-wide, instantly, across SMS and WhatsApp — not just for one campaign. See [DND & suppression](/docs/crm/dnd).

**Can it text at 2am?**

Quiet hours hold non-urgent outbound until morning. Missed-call texts queue and sweep rather than firing blind.

## Pricing & account

**What does it cost?**

One plan per business: Desk $149/mo (every text channel, unlimited), Front Desk $399/mo (adds the AI receptionist, 500 voice minutes included, then 25¢/min). Numbers are $10/mo each at cost. Want it built and tuned for you, or to resell it to your own clients? [Talk to us](/contact). See [Plans, billing & usage](/docs/getting-started/plans-billing).

**Can I run multiple businesses in one account?**

Yes — that's the agency model: one workspace, a business per client, each with its own services, numbers, members, and data. See [Members & roles](/docs/workspace/members).

**Can an AI set all this up for me?**

Yes. The hosted [MCP server](/docs/mcp/overview) exposes the whole platform as tools — Claude or Cursor can build services, knowledge, workflows, numbers, and compliance from one conversation.

## Data

**Who owns the data?**

You do — contacts, transcripts, boards, and knowledge belong to the workspace, exportable and deletable. Integration credentials are encrypted and never exposed to the model.

**Is every conversation logged?**

Yes: every call has a transcript and AI summary, every chat and DM is a conversation record, every workflow run has a step-by-step log, and every back-office change has an approval trail.
